Description

Big 'Ovava Tree #1, one of 'Eua's two towering "Big 'Ovava Trees," is believed to be at least 800 years old. Following a brief walk (10-15 minutes one way) through the forest from Hafu Pool, you'll encounter this colossal tree that was once a single host tree but has since given rise to numerous substantial vines. These roots and vines extend into a cave below, creating a habitat for native swallows, locally known as pekapeka. These swallows employ sonar, akin to bats, to navigate their environment.

Highlights

  • Enjoy a short forest walk from Hafu Pool
  • Discover a centuries-old banyan tree with sprawling vines
  • Observe native swallows abundant in the area
