goes to carefully selected local environmental charities in tonga.
Each year, the local providers we work with vote on which environmental charities, NGOs or initiatives
they want to support. We don't play favourites – we simply split the 1% fairly between the chosen
causes. That way, your bookings reflect the values of the people hosting you.

Last Year's Pick: Vava'u Environmental Protection Association (VEPA)
Last year, your bookings helped fund the Vava'u Environmental Protection Association (VEPA), which used the funds to support their ongoing ambassador program, training Tongan
youths on conserving the ocean and environment.
“We are currently training 15 ambassadors on coral reef monitoring as we feel having
Tongans actively managing their ocean is a benefit to everyone,” says Karen Stone,
director of VEPA.
The other contender was SPREP, the
Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme, a regional organisation
working to protect and manage the environment and natural resources across the
Pacific.
