  • What to Expect

We start our Tongatapu East Coast & Anahulu Cave Tour by picking you up from your accommodation in Tongatapu. Our first stop is the Royal Palace, where we discuss Tonga’s proud traditions as the only kingdom in the Pacific. From there, we visit the Royal Tomb, a sacred burial site for the Tongan royal family, surrounded by taboos and cultural significance.

Next, we stop at the Captain Cook Landing Site, where the famous navigator arrived in 1777. Here, we share the story of Tonga’s first fruits being presented to Captain Cook and the island’s rich agricultural history, which inspired him to name Tonga the Friendly Islands.

We then marvel at the engineering feats of our ancestors at the Paepae ‘o Tele’a, also known as the Langi Tonga Terraced Tombs, made of coral slabs transported from nearby islands. Our journey continues to the incredible Ha’amonga a Maui, an ancient stone trilithon showcasing the ingenuity of Tongan forefathers. On some days, small souvenirs are available here.

A quick stop at the hidden gem, Maui’s Throwing Stone, brings the legend of Maui to life, as he is said to have thrown these rocks in frustration with noisy prehistoric chickens.

The final leg of the tour takes us to Anahulu Beach and Cave, a unique location where you can enjoy both a serene beach and a refreshing swim in the cave’s underground freshwater pool. Entry to the cave is included, and you can also choose to relax on the beach. After this unforgettable day tour of Tongatapu, we’ll drop you back at your pick-up point.
