What to Expect
We begin our Tongan cultural and sightseeing tour by picking you up from your hotel or accommodation in Tongatapu. Our journey starts at the Captain Cook Landing Site, a historical landmark where the famous navigator arrived in 1777, marking an important moment in Tonga’s history.
Next, we visit the Paepae ‘o Tele’a, where ancient kings and queens are laid to rest. Marvel at the engineering prowess of Tonga’s ancestors as you view the terraces built with massive slabs of coral rock.
The tour continues to the iconic Ha’amonga ‘a Maui, an ancient trilithon and a demonstration of the ingenuity of Tongan forefathers. We’ll also make a stop at Maui’s Throwing Stones, linked to the fascinating legend of Maui’s battle against noisy prehistoric chickens.
Our final destination is Anahulu Cave and Beach, where tradition meets relaxation. Begin with cultural demonstrations, including mat weaving and tapa cloth making, showcasing their uses in everyday life and significant events like weddings and funerals. Our knowledgeable and passionate guides will teach you about the intricate process of transforming mulberry bark into tapa cloth.
You’ll also witness a coconut demonstration, revealing the many uses of this versatile resource, from cooking cream to leaves for making baskets and fans.
Wrap up your experience with a refreshing swim in the cool waters of Anahulu Cave or relax at the nearby, peaceful beach. Entry to the cave is included, and after your half-day adventure, we’ll return you to your pick-up point.
